IMAIZUMI Yoshihiko 今泉省彦 (November 30, 1931 – July 13, 2010) was my teacher as well as a Japanese artist, critic, and organizer. He played a behind-the-scenes yet essential role in the postwar Japanese avant-garde art scene, leaving a unique mark as a “maker who did not make paintings.”

He was also widely known for his involvement in the founding of The Bigakko (School of Visual Arts), an alternative art education institution, where he served as its director from 1981 to 2000.

Through his writings, organizing activities, and support for emerging artists, Imaizumi contributed greatly to the development of experimental artistic practices in postwar Japan.
