The Art of „Encountering“ Issue II / Die Kunst der „Begegnung“

concept
7 artistic strategies and points of view from Japan meet in 7 different cities with 7 local artistic positions. This will be constitute an international congress with the aim to display methods, strategies and various models. The subject of this exploration is the “public space”, with the special focus on social sensitive areas, places and situations. (The whole projects amalgates 56 different positions into one, however the result will represent itself.)

The current project is build up on various past ones and refers to them, for example projects like the method of operation that Studio Art Hechima So On / Tokio represents, or the project ‘Site-specific “Action“ in Yokohama’ / Japan or „Cross Border“ a project by ART IG / Hannover.

By using the term “somatic culture”, I want to adumbrate conditions, that demonstrate the impact of the expected interferences emphasizing a vivisection concerning the architectural, city-spatial and societal body as following:
Interaction with human states of being, coincidental temporary presences, area conditions, layers and crinkles of various worlds of living and realities. This project will be a discourse, demonstrating participatory reciprocal actions, human and space, gesture and habit, trafficking and changes, etc.

The partners, the participating 7 towns will start their research, beginning in august 2006 and will commence the prearrangements for the interferences, while being in constant dialogue with the Japanese artists. The project will shift into the realisationary status in the middle of July 2007.

The artistic interferences will be temporary and performative. The project „The Art of Encounter“ represents in many ways a multi-layer panache, insofar as not only displaying fields like local /versus/ transnational, east /versus/ west, public-representative /versus/ public non-representative but as well:

° the model constituting an „interdisciplinary colloquium“ - shall navigate the perception of the social body to areas, that focus on epi-phenomena of social processes. Side-effects, seen from the corner of the eye, mostly overseen in a non-perceptive style. (Performance as a registering process.)

° Starting from the reflections about „WHAT actually is public space“, shifting to „HOW the public space is defined“ one can state, that actually there is not too many concepts and methods of artistic interferences to be found. Over the intervening years questions arise, for example: how an instrument can look like, according to the various circumstances, for the different perceived and non-perceived places and non-places. And which are the places, where interferences and executions make sense.

The slowly but steady establishing of delineations, not containing the coincidental factor:
here my artistic, individual performance and there the (coincidentally free) space representing a coincidental publicity.
On a long-term basis, the development of comprehensive methods is practiced.

° The factor „education“ contains, understood from my perspective, more the task and signification seen and performed as an exchange. The participating artists understand their „part-taking“ and „part-giving“ as an alignment. The apprenticeship is seen as an integral part of the collegiate literacy. This, consequential, leads to a rich impact on the methods of interferences.
